Former Mount Gambier cricketer Heath Case has had a call up to the nation’s capital to represent South Australia.
Case played the ACT in three trial matches, with two being T20 format and one a two-dayer at Manuka Oval in Canberra.
The youngster was selected for the side after good performances in first grade Adelaide cricket games as well as being a member of the SACA Teams pathways academy.
Case got off to a rough start in the two day match, registering a golden duck to kick off the series, however SA was to get the win, beating ACT by four wickets.
He played a lot better in the T20 matches, finishing 4/20 in four overs and making 29 runs off 29 balls.
Despite this the ACT claimed the win.
In the final match Case made 26 off 24 with SA winning by 24 runs.
Despite having a rough start in the first match Case was still pleased with how he played in the T20 games.
“I was happy with how I went in the next two, considering 20/20s are not high scoring … but I was happy with how I went about it,” he said.
Case had extra reasons to play well given the games in Canberra had a lot of eyes on players, with selectors looking for potential young prospects to award contracts with numerous SA players hoping to secure a contract in a bid to get closer to becoming a professional.
Case hopes to continue to improve as he looks to make the side again for a team that will head to India to play a series as well as pushing to play more Second XI games.
“There is an India trip again that I did last year that’s coming up which is meant to be played in Shehnai,” he said.
“So I’m striving to hopefully get picked in that because that was quite a cool experience last year.
“There are always Second XI games that I’m trying to play in and performance wise I’m just trying to score runs and take wickets and hopefully get picked in those matches and hopefully perform at a high level.”
