State funding flows to city

State Government projects at Mount Gambier worth tens of millions of dollars have recently been rubber-stamped by an all-party parliamentary committee.

The Public Works Committee has endorsed the $20m Mount Gambier Hospital redevelopment and the $38.5m Mount Gambier Technical College.

The $9m Lake Hawdon regulator was also given the green light in a report tabled in the House of Assembly.

Under legislation dating back to the 1970s, all major projects require parliamentary scrutiny and are invariably approved.

Most of the persons interviewed are public servants but Member for MacKillop Nick McBride also gave evidence about Lake Hawdon.

His contribution was praised by Labor backbencher Michael Brown who chairs the Public Works Committee.

“We saw photographs of the Member MacKillop’s family using the area, we saw maps that he had prepared and I must say the committee was a lot better informed about the operation of drains in the South East after Mr McBride’s presentation than we were before,” Mr Brown said.

“I thank the Member for MacKillop for his presentation to the committee and also for his contribution in the House of Assembly.”
