Joint meeting with Rotary Hamilton – points arboretum
THE Rotary Clubs of Casterton and Hamilton met jointly last week at the Arboretum in Coleraine in lieu of our annual barbecue at the historic Coleraine Railway Station.
It was our annual joint club catch-up.
The night went well with only very low-key grumblings regarding our placement into different community groups for the ‘Regionalisation Pilot’.
This was easily sorted by declaring that we would still work together regardless.
Our Guest speaker was Mr Howard Templeton, Chair of the Arboretum Committee, since it’s split from Parks Victoria.
Howard was a former Southern Grampians Mayor in a long and impressive list of public appointments.
We learned there is much work to be done; a local committee, albeit small, is working hard and that we have been invited to assist.
More than 30 Rotarians and partners put a bit of a strain on service at the revamped National Smoke-House but judging by the smiles, the night was a winner.
Thanks Hamilton Club for joining us and Shane for the song.
Regionalisation Pilot (RCG)
THE catch-up with the Rotary Club of Hamilton stirred the huge staff at ‘The Dot’ to ponder where the Border of the Border Group exactly starts and ends?
Recently, we have been working with Bordertown, Casterton, Millicent, Mt Gambier, Mt Gambier Lakes, Mt Gambier West and Naracoorte, plus Warrnambool, Portland and Hamilton.
Rotary Clubs one and all and a fine group of humans they are too.
Kelpie Art Show
WE HAVE started to change the canvas and head in the direction of the 2025 Australian Kelpie Muster Art Show (powered by Rotary – of course).
A lot to do involving artists, judge, feature artist, sponsorships, marketing, logistics, cataloguing, plus arrangements for our gala opening night. a night which doubles as the official opening of the Kelpie Muster, the Kelpie Festival with its multitude of dog events and the nationally famous Working Dog Auction.
Opening night food, wine, live music, ticketing, invitations, art sales, awards and fun.
Our judging differs from most art shows where art is usually judged by ‘medium’, our prizes are awarded by ‘subject matter’.
The major prize donated by the Casterton Kelpie Association is for the best ‘work depicting a working dog’, (the Kelpie).
We have created the Gorman’s Real Estate ‘Prize for Portraiture’, a sponsored ‘Australiana Award’ and an encouragement award, a Junior/Young Adult category.
