Students take dedicated approach to wellbeing

The students at Penola Primary School take a dedicated approach to wellbeing. In week 6 of every term, Penola Primary holds a wellbeing week with activities aimed to bring students together.

These include warm milos every morning and pancakes on Friday morning, an activity every lunch break for creativity and fun, chalk drawing on the basketball court was a hit, with students of all ages participating and transforming the court into a colourful masterpiece.

During the week there is also music in the yard which brings extra energy and excitement, with students dancing, playing games of freeze, and simply enjoying the rhythm.

The yard fills with laughter, movement and joy.

The highlight is a whole school morning circle on Fridays where all students and staff came together to greet each other, creating a sense of community and connection.

The atmosphere is vibrant as everyone gathers, sharing smiles and high-fives, setting a positive tone for the day.

On Tuesday the students marked R U OK? Day, dressing in bright yellow to support the cause and highlight the importance of meaningful conversations and checking in with those around us.

Students engaged in a mini-lesson conducted by the SRC to learn all about R U OK? Day and its importance in starting a conversation.

They learned to understand how to approach a conversation and things they might be able to say.

To finish the lesson off students created a list of five trustworthy people they could talk to about a problem and decorated this on a handprint.

The day was a powerful reminder a simple question can make a big difference in someone’s life.

Overall, the week was a wonderful celebration of community, inclusivity, and wellbeing, reminding us all of the importance of coming together, supporting one another, and having fun.

We look forward to many more successful Wellbeing Weeks in the future!
