Fine weather is needed for the Millicent Swimming Lake to be reopened at the usual time of November 1.
A new bitumen base needs to be re-laid and this cannot be done in wet weather.
Massive water losses in 2023 have led to certain remedial measures including the bitumen re-seal at a cost of $136,000.
The re-seal is regarded as a stop-gap measure for a few years ahead of an anticipated multi-million-dollar concrete rebuild.
According to a staff report, the Wattle Range Council Operations team has completed the patchwork on the lake floor.
“All suspect and exposed surface areas have been covered and the larger areas filled with concrete,” stated the staff report.
“The beach sand has been removed and a hot mix lip has been built at the shoreline to reduce water loss and intrusive tree roots.
“Council staff are now in close contact with sealing contractor (InRoads) appointed to complete the next stage.
“InRoads are now awaiting weather in terms of a minimum of four days of no rain and warm weather to remove any excess water, complete a proceed final sweep and to undertaking the re-seal.
“After re-sealing, the swim lanes and the lake perimeter wall have to be painted and the lake filled and chlorinated.
“The lake is expected to be available for the start of swim season, early November.”
