Support makes real difference to patients

Generous community donations provided to the Millicent Cancer Support Group have resulted in the purchase of more equipment to support the treatment of those impacted by cancer.

The donations realised through fundraising activities have funded a portable ultrasound machine and clinical treatment couch, collectively valued at about $13,000.

The ultrasound machine, which is used for diagnostics, is now being used to support cancer patients at the Mount Gambier and Districts Health Service Breast and Endocrine clinics.

The electric-operated treatment couch is being used in the service’s clinical treatment room by patients supported by Country Health Connect.

The Millicent Cancer Support Group, formed in 1986, is a non-for-profit operated service and works to help raise funds for cancer research and provide support and services to those living with cancer.

More information on the group is available on the Millicent Cancer Support Group Facebook page

Limestone Coast Local Health Network Breast Care Nurse Dana Mulraney was delighted with the donations.

“Thank you to those who so generously provide the Millicent Cancer Support Group with much needed donations,” she said.

“Our visiting breast and endocrine specialists, Dr Robert Whitfield and Dr Janne Bingham, have been extremely supportive and grateful for the donations, which will complement the amazing service they provide locally.

“We are lucky to live in such a supportive community and generous donations such as these are so valuable.”

Millicent Cancer Support Group Member Karla Werchon said the group was pleased to help the local community.

“At the Millicent Cancer Support Group, our aims are to try and help as many people affected by cancer as we possibly can,” she said.

“We’re fortunate to have an amazing community and surrounding area, full of generous people who always strive to help each other – this latest donation is another great example of that.”
