Surprise fourth candidate comes out of ‘right field’

A fourth candidate has nominated to contest the seat of Mount Gambier at the March 19 State Election.

Family First candidate Peter Heaven was a surprise nominee announced at yesterday morning’s ballot paper draw in Mount Gambier.

Mr Heaven also contested the seat at the 2014 State Election for Family First.

Yesterday’s draw was conducted at the city’s early voting centre located in the former She’s Apples building at 30 James Street.

The pre-polling centre will open on Monday for those voters unable to vote on election day and operate until March 18.

Mount Gambier returning officer Sally Klose and assistant returning officer Kevin Mott conducted the draw.

Liberal candidate Ben Hood secured the coveted number one spot on the ballot paper, followed by Mr Heaven, Labor candidate Katherine Davies and Independent Troy Bell.

In coming days South Australian voters will receive an EasyVote Card in the post, which features a unique QR code which can be scanned when going to vote.

This will instantly mark your name off the electoral roll, making the voting experience streamlined and faster.

The card also includes a list of the nearest polling booths.

For those people unable to cast their vote at a polling booth due to COVID-19, 22 PCR or rapid antigen testing (RAT) locations across the state, including those based in regional communities, will double as voting pack collection points allowing close contacts and COVID-19 impacted individuals to vote safely.
