T20 glory awaits

Mount Gambier is set for a Super Sunday of T20 cricket with the Globel Hotel Big Bash set for a showdown.

A double header will be held at Frew Park as Penola and East Gambier face off in the semi final with the winner taking on West Gambier later that day in the grand final.

Heading into the final both Penola and East finished with a record of three wins and two losses with Penola slighting edging out the Doggies on the ladder with a better nett run rate.

On the other hand, West have been the top team to beat this season, going undefeated with five wins to their name heading into the grand final.

The two semi final sides last met in round one with the Eagles getting the win.

Both sides had an up and down end to the season last year with Penola picking up a tough loss to Mil Lel in round four before backing it up with a big win over South in round five.

Meanwhile, East had a big win over North in round four then suffered a tough loss to first placed West in round five.

Both of these sides struggled a bit against West with the Roos defeating both sides with overs to spare.

A key player for the Eagles in the semi final will be Jack Mullan, who has been having a great season in both the T20 and the Barber Shield.

Mullan has found some great form heading into the finals, making a century in the final game of the season against the Dees.

When it comes to the bowlers, Brendon Smart has been great with the ball for Penola this season.

He has been reliable week in and week out and has shown that he can come up with some big wickets.

Alex Hill has been reliable at the crease for East this season and has been in great form heading into the final, producing some solid performances with the bat.

The semi final is set to go down to the wire given both the Doggies and the Eagles are very competitive sides playing on a deck that can produce some big scores.

It should be interesting to see if fatigue will affect the semi final team that wins through to the grand final, however that side may have an advantage, after already playing a game on the pitch and acclimatising to the conditions.

The semi final match between East and Penola will kick off at 11am on Sunday, followed by the grand final at 2:30pm.
