Taking to the courts

JAN DANCEY – CROQUET

SEVEN players took to the courts on Saturday, making the most of the beautiful sunshine and fine weather.

In game one we had Lois and Margaret playing Lee, who having not played for some time and drawn to play the two balls had a tough game ahead of her with these two seasoned players.

The game did go Lois and Margaret’s way, seven to two, but Lee did play a few great shots and kept plugging away, but the lack of court time went against her as the game went on.

In game two, however, this was a very closely fought game and ended up with a shoot-out at hoop 13.

Jan was teamed up with Thomas and Yvonne was playing with Donna.

This was a long game with the first 10 minutes at hoop one, with the four of us battling each other to make the hoop.

I think it was Yvonne that eventually made it and off we went into a game that had a lot of competitiveness, a lot of good shots and a lot of near misses.

Hoop 13, however, went Thomas and Jan’s way and they were more than delighted with the win.

Game three, Margaret was drawn to play two balls against Lois and Jan.

This was another good close game but Margaret, playing her usual high standard game and with some brilliant shots, won the game, seven to five.

Game four, Lee once again was drawn to play the two balls against Donna and Yvonne.

Thomas had retired after being bitten on the lip by a European wasp as he was having a drink from a can of soft drink.

Anyway, with the patient comfortable, the game started and went on for quite a while with some confusion along the way as to which hoop they were up to, so with this mix-up somewhere along the way the game went to a shoot-out and the win to Lee, seven to six.

Another very pleasant day out in the sunshine having some fun and a few laughs.
