Teaching legacy

Robe Primary School has a new nature playground and it has been named after prominent local educator Chris McLay.

It recognises almost four decades of dedicated service to the school as a classroom teacher, principal and relieving teacher.

Trained at the now-closed Salisbury Teachers College in suburban Adelaide, Mr McLay transferred from a metropolitan school to Robe in 1985.

He has been active in the seaside community notably at the Robe Football Cub where he has filled such roles as a player, senior coach, underage coach, president and sponsorship coordinator.

As a SANFL footballer, he had played 70 senior and 150 Reserves games at Central Districts.

The new playground is located adjacent to the school’s John Wheeley Lea Oval.

The official opening was attended by a number of VIPs including Robe Mayor Lisa Ruffell.

“This was a really special event and I want to congratulate the Robe Primary School on a brilliant project and opening event,” she said.
