Mount Gambier’s Pioneers Basketball Club is the Blue Lake city’s only sporting team to play in a national competition and has received much valued support from another proud local operation.

Club president Tom Kosch said the club was committed to the Mount Gambier community and, in turn, was wonderfully supported by many local businesses, large and small.

One of the newest major supporters is the local Philadelphia Cream Cheese team, part of the global snacking company, Mondelez International, which commenced its support for the Pioneers in 2023.

Mr Kosch expressed the club’s appreciation for the strong commitment and support of the Philadelphia Cream Cheese team.

“The partnership between Philly Cream Cheese and our club is important to our club as we share the values of being strongly embedded in our community,” he said.

“As one of the region’s biggest iconic employers Philly Cream Cheese and the Pioneers share values that encourage a sense of community and a vision for the future.

“I know by speaking with Adam Borchers and his team they are very proud of their connection with our basketball club and playing their part in directly supporting the pathway for young men and women within the sport.

“We thank the Philly Cream Cheese team for their support of our basketball club and look forward to representing their business and our town wherever we travel in 2024.”

Mondelez Suttontown Plant Lead Adam Borchers said the ‘Philly’ cream cheese team was excited to continue their support of the Pioneers Basketball Club throughout the 2024 season.

“Based in Mount Gambier for over 50 years, we employ 100 locals who manufacture a world-class product that is proudly displayed on every supermarket shelf in Australia and through Asia,” he said.

“The shared vision of community spirit, team first approach and ongoing success underpins the Philadelphia and Pioneers partnership.”
