13 and Under B – West 24 d North 21

West Gambier started strongly applying tight defensive pressure helping them gain first possession of the ball in the Western Border netball semi-final against North Gambier.

Matilda Neale and Claire Hunter combined well in the defensive circle to limit the scoring opportunities of the Tigers but only went into the break one goal in front, with North’s Jenna Barron being the most accurate goalie.

After the Roos extended their lead North regrouped at the main break through some great shooting by Carey Grivell.

The final quarter was intense with Grivell continuing her good form but West maintained control to defeat a vastly improved North who would have been pleased with their finish to the season.

13 and Under A – North 50 d East 7

It was a tough day for the young Bulldogs as North Gambier dominated every area of the court to advance to the 2022 13 and Under A preliminary final.

The height of the Tigers goal attack Misha Human was causing the East defence all sorts of issues and in the first half with the rising talent netted a perfect 18 from 18.

Human was well served by the feeding from Mia Griffith, while at the other end of the court, the defensive combination of Raine Darimaani and Georgia Nulty refused to allow East any easy ball.

North cruised to a convincing 43-goal win.

15 and Under B – East 33 d West 22

East started strongly again West in the 15 and Under B’s, with tight defensive pressure all over the court being a highlight.

This forced the Roos into early errors while Bulldogs’ goal attack Ellie Chittleborough finished off the good work of the defenders, shooting accurately.

The second quarter was more evenly contested with West’s Demi Jennings coming off the bench and providing plenty of drive through the midcourt.

West kept trying hard to bridge the gap and went goal for goal in the last quarter, however East remained in control and finished the quarter well taking out a convincing 11 goal win.

Best Players for East were Abbey Lines and Chittleborough and for West Macy Pearson and Holly Jackson performed.

15 and Under A – West 35 d Casterton Sandford 30

The match started evenly with both teams showing nerves early before West settled through Lucy Simpson at goal attack.

Casterton’s Indi Longhurst gave her all through the mid court trying to control the ball and pace of the game, but the Roos jumped in front on the scoreboard.

West settled quickly in the second, converting their turnovers and applying scoreboard pressure.

Casterton Sandford fought back in the third quarter, applying tighter defensive pressure through Sarah Richardson and Amy Crawford and limiting West’s scoring opportunities.

The final quarter started evenly and went goal for goal early before Ella Jolley picked up her work rate and found space in attack.

However, West’s early lead secured a five-goal win and the right to play in the preliminary final.

17 and Under – North Gambier 41 d Casterton Sandford 40

There was never more than four goals separating these two well matched teams and in the end, North Gambier was able to score just before the final whistle to snare a tense semi-final win over Casterton Sandford and advance to the preliminary final.

The Tigers got the better of the start with Coco Mackereth starring with her goaling combination of Ava Norman and Lauran Norman, who netted 12 for the quarter as North built a three goal quarter time lead.

The Cats were always going to respond and they found better rhythm in attack as Makayla Hutchins, Phoebe Carlin, Chloe Foster and Ivy Lane stood tall.

North still looked solid, with Mackereth continuing to dominate and Alice Tentye also working overtime in centre to build a three goal lead at the final break.

But it evaporated quickly in the early in the last with Ebany Jarrad again proving influential.

In the end Lauran Norman converted an under the post penalty rebound and time ran out for the Cats.
