Teams step up for bayside bowls competition

Seven teams competed in Port MacDonnell’s Open Men’s Fours bowls competition recently.

Teams from Mount Gambier, Mount Gambier RSL, Penola, Millicent, Beachport, Kalangadoo and Port MacDonnell hitting the coastal rinks to compete in the event.

There was one game of 14 ends played before lunch and one game of 10 ends in the afternoon, however the third game had to be called off due to heavy rain which flooded the green.

The Port MacDonnell team of Adam Wilson, Keith Dowdell, Wayne Dowdell and skipper Tim Wrightson claimed the win, 78 points plus 26, while second place went to a combination team from Millicent and Mount Gambier RSL of Ian McIntosh, Strawb Masters, Terry Curtis and skipper Kym Stewart 76 points plus 27.

Claiming third position was the Mount Gambier team of Neil Blakey, Athol Malseed, James Farran and skipper Steve Farrell finished third with a score of 72 points plus 5 with fourth place going to the Mount Gambier RSL team comprising John Schroder, Ralph Stafford, Graham Ellis and skipper Garry Feast with 72 plus 3.

Ladies Friday Pennants: Division 1 – Port MacDonnell 49 shots 4 points drew with Millicent Blue 49 shots 4 points at Millicent: Nallia Lucas, Jennie Tilley, Roma Henderson and skipper Heather Richards won 27-19 against Jan Buhlman, Sharon Perryman, Robyn Burley, Jan Dowdell and skipper Judith Grosvenor lost to Adriana Ross 22-30; Division 2 – Port MacDonnell 32 shots 0 points lost to Naracoorte RSL 63 shots 8 points, at Naracoorte: Julie Beamans, Shirley Taylor, Lyn Vanderley and skipper Lorraine Mackereth lost 15-38 against Linda Mark, Suzanne Connell and Elaine Hutchesson. Heather Fox and skipper Marilyn Sutton lost 16-25 against Maree Neilson.

Saturday Open Pennants: Division 1 – Port MacDonnell 75 shots 8 points defeated Kingston 64 shots 4 points at Port MacDonnell – Jan Dowdell, Robert Hutchesson, Wayne Dowdell and skipper Tim Wrightson lost to Colin Bobridge 18-23; Heather Richards, Bill Richards, Keith Dowdell and skipper Adam Wilson defeated Neil Watts 35-15; Greg Fisher, John Broadbent, Judith Grosvenor and skipper Chris Richards lost to Rodney Willmott 22-26.

Division 2: Port MacDonnell Red 35 shots 0 points lost to Mount Gambier RSL Red 106 shots 12 points at Mount Gambier RSL – Bruce Bain, Dave Beaman, Donald Forbes and skipper Kel Butler lost to David O’Donnell 14-32; Suzanne Connell, Lance Fisher, Jennie Tilley and skipper Terry Seiler lost to Ian Moulden 14-35; Chris Negline, Victor Perryman, John Naismith and skipper Danny Gaut lost to Alby McIntyre 7-39.

Division 3: Port MacDonnell Blue 64 shots 2 points lost to Mount Gambier RSL Blue 82 shots 10 points – Ben Tilley, Lyn Vanderley, Rod Sutton and skipper Justin Brown won against Garry Burke 25-23; Eddie Otter, Kevin Norman, Darryl Sims and skipper Nellia Lucas lost to Lindsay Moyle 21-34; Julie Beamans, Graham Hutchesson, Graham Lucas and skipper Marilyn Sutton lost to Alan Coulson 18-25.
