Tennis back in full swing

Division 1

West Gambier v Uniting

The second half of the Mount Gambier and District Tennis Association season will kick off this weekend as West Gambier takes on Uniting at Malseed Park.

This will be the fourth meeting in this grand final rematch series from last season.

Uniting drew blood first in round three with a narrow victory.

Since then West has had Uniting’s number, winning the next two meetings which has helped them take the top spot on the ladder with only five points separating the two clubs.

One of the key matches this round will be the ladies top singles between West’s Jess Stutley and Uniting’s Tessa Megaw.

They have been dominant with both taking a set off each other this season with games being the decider.

Heading into this game it will be interesting to see how Uniting’s number one man Andrew van den Hurk plays after having a very busy summer competing in Adelaide.

Given how competitive these sides are it’s very likely this will be a very close game.

STRONG START: Maggie Collins and Reidy Park will be looking to get away to a strong start in 2025 as they face Glencoe to kick off the second half of the season.

Glencoe v Reidy Park

This Saturday Glencoe and Reidy Park will face off with Reidy travelling to Glencoe.

These sides have met twice this season with the season series tied one apiece.

Both sides sit in the top four with a fair gap between them in third and fourth with Reidy on 82 points and Glencoe on 63.

The top men match up between Glencoe’s Dylan Childs and Reidy’s Zayne Young looks set to be a tight contest as these are two strong hitters who put a lot of pace on the ball.

Childs has gotten the better of Young this season, taking the win 6-2 in their only match up.

Glencoe will be hungry to get as many points as they look to close the gap with a victory on their home court.

Division 2

In Division 2 the second half of the season will kick off with a top of the table clash as Mount Gambier host West Gambier Blue with a win to West will help them trim Mount Gambier’s lead at the top of the ladder.

Suttontown/Glencoe will take on West Gambier Red in Suttontown.

A win to the combined side would put the pressure on West Blue’s ladder position as there are not many points separating the pair.

Division 3

Mil Lel will take on Mount Gambier out at Mil Lel.

A win for Mil Lel will help their chances at taking first place while Gambier will be looking to stay in the top four.

Centrals/Mount Schank will face Centrals at Olympic Park and are in desperate need of a win to retain their position in first on the ladder.

Ladies Doubles

Reidy Park will take on Glencoe at Olympic Park while the two Mil Lel teams face off in Mil Lel with Mount Schank hosting West Gambier.

Mixed Doubles

Uniting/Glencoe will face off against Mount Gambier Green with Moorak Green taking on Mount Schank while Moorak Gray face Glencoe in Glencoe.

Mount Gambier Blue will host Suttontown at Gambier.
