Theatre upgrade funding

Mount Gambier’s Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre will share in $3.9m allocated to four regional art centres in the State Budget.

In accordance with the State Government’s new $80m State Cultural Policy, A Place to Create, which has investment in regional arts and culture as a key pillar, the government is upgrading the Middleback Arts Centre in Whyalla, Northern Festival Centre in Port Pirie, Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre and the Chaffey Theatre in Renmark.

Middleback Arts Centre will receive the biggest upgrade with a program of works to modernise equipment within the 40-year-old centre.

In 2024, 119,076 people attended 1832 events at the four centres with 14,484 people onstage and a further 2314 backstage.

The works are expected to be completed by mid-2027.
