A GRADE – EAST GAMBIER V MILLICENT
It was only last week when Millicent finally got the better of East Gambier, albeit by one goal.
It was the Bulldogs first loss for the season in a high-quality contest that has whet the appetite for the 2021 finals series.
Injury clouds hover of East stars Tarsh McCallum and Lisa Fyfe, and coach Emily Hunter will be sweating on her team mates’ fitness.
Tenille Gray, Fyfe and Hunter are bonafide stars of the competition and they will need to be at their best to continue their charge, while Amryn Bosko has had a stunning debut season in A Grade at goal shooter.
The Saints are also a star studded line-up that have developed over 2021 as the reigning premiers got used to life without Donna Denton and Hayley Dunn.
Portia McRae has been a revelation at goal keeper for the Saints and her combination with Hannah Nitschke looked to have really clicked in the weekend’s victory, while Tabatha Sanderson is strong under the goal post.
East is on a mission and may just well take another step in that mission with a narrow win and the first place in the 2021 A Grade grand final.
A RESERVE – MILLICENT V NORTH GAMBIER
Not much separates Millicent and North Gambier with both teams boasting a perfect blend of youth and experience.
Teenager Annelise Janssen is strong under the post for the Saints, while Tigers shooter Alisha Bryan is as wily as they come, positioning herself well and finishing accurately.
In the end, it will be a tight contest with the Saints expected to advance to the grand final.
B GRADE – MILLICENT V SOUTH GAMBIER
This is new territory for Millicent as it has been some years since it has featured in the B Grade finals and this weekend’s battle with South Gambier, arguably the form team of the second half of the season, will be epic.
Both teams have reliable goalers, tight checking defenders and hard running mid courters.
The battle in the middle between Millicent’s Jackie Sunderland and South’s Shelby Auld will be one match up that plays a huge role in the final wash up, while the experience of the respective shooters – Jacqui Matthews (Millicent) and Leyna Bruggemann (South) – will be pivotal.
C GRADE – MILLICENT V NORTH GAMBIER
Millicent has not featured in C Grade finals for some time and until last weekend, they were sitting undefeated on top of the ladder.
A narrow loss to East will only have spurred the Saints on as they take on North Gambier with the opportunity to book a grand final berth.
Both sides have no real weakness and every on-court battle will be intriguing.
17 & UNDER – MILLICENT V SOUTH GAMBIER
Millicent has been the benchmark all season and South Gambier gets that opportunity in the second semi final as some of the association’s best talent will be on display.
Lucy Denton looms large at goal attack and no doubt South defender Ellie Bouchier will be charged with limiting Denton’s opportunities.
The Saints start favourites and should book a grand final berth but South will make them earn it.
15 & UNDER A – MILLICENT V NORTH GAMBIER
Millicent has led the 15 & under A competition but North Gambier is right in the mix.
The Saints are undefeated and have scored 200 goals more than their closest rival, so they will earn one more shot.
15 & UNDER B – CASTERTON SANDFORD V EAST GAMBIER
Border restrictions and lockdowns might make the 15 & under B final a non-event, which would be a tough call on the undefeated Casterton Sandford line-up.
This final has been moved to the Sunday timeslot to give the Cats one more day to prepare if government regulations on both sides of the border allow.
13 & UNDER A – MILLICENT V NORTH GAMBIER
Millicent and North Gambier are the leading contenders to claim the premiership and there is planet of the competition’s best young talent set to appear on this court in what will be a tightly contested final.
Millicent has the likes of Ashlee Dean, Piper Paul, Mylee Lynch, Eva Crowe and Emily Denton, while Maggie Collins, Kelsie Anderson, Ilana Adam, Raine Darimaani and Ruby Mitchell are all potential matchwinners.
13 & UNDER B – MILLICENT V NORTH GAMBIER
The 13 & Under B second semi final looms as one of the tightest contests at Vansittart Park as Millicent takes on North Gambier.
It has been a topsy turvy season for these two teams when facing off in 2021 – North winning this first clash by 15, losing the second by nine and then bouncing back with a 12 goal victory.
History says North might have the edge.
