Tigers roar to KNT premiership victory

Mundulla defeated Kingston on Saturday to win the 2025 Kowree Naracoorte Tatiara Football League premiership.


The Tigers jumped Kingston early in the game before they withstood a Kingston fightback to record back-to-back premierships.


Mundulla scored the first goal after James Hinge scored truly following a big mark over a Kingston defender.


Darcy King, Reagen Tink and Jacob Pedler began the game in great touch for Mundulla.


Mundulla soon had its second goal of the game after James Hinge took a falling mark and put the shot on goal through.


The Tigers struck again as Nathan Studham snapped a goal from a ruck contest.


The Saints were finding it hard to contain the Tigers as they were on top in general play.


Mundulla scored again as Billy Wiese put through a shot on goal after receiving a free kick in front of the goals, and the Tigers had a lead of 25 points while Kingston did not look like scoring.


James Hinge and Nick Mosey added more goals as the Tigers pushed ahead by 39 points close to quarter time.


Nathan Studham, Raegan Tink, Elliot Jaeschke and Darcy King were playing some great football for Mundulla, with the Tigers seemingly having the perfect start to a grand final.


Kingston could not get any good plays going in the first quarter as the Tigers held the Saints goalless, with Mundulla leading by 38 points at the first break.


The Saints found it hard to have many clear winners in the first quarter, but Hagan Wright, Ben Kennedy and Jack Armfield were giving their all and were in the thick of the action.


Kingston started the second quarter with more urgency as they began to win more of the football around the ground.


Mundulla were the first team to score a goal after Nick Mosey kicked the Tigers’ seventh.


The Tigers were taking their chances in front of the goals as the Saints continued to struggle to set up any solid scoring shots.


Jacob Grosser and Elliot Jaeschke were having a big influence on the game in the midfield.


Kingston finally got their first goal of the game after Alex Barns, Jack Armfield and Ben Warner worked together to get the ball to William Watts.


William scored the goal as the Tigers’ lead was cut to 38 points.


The Saints were far more desperate around the ground and packs and the goal seemed to steady the team.


Kingston had their second goal of the game after they went the length of the field after Mundulla scored a behind.


Campbell Watts, Tyler Baker, Brandon Tapfield, Hagan Wright, Jack Harding and Hugo Fahlbusch-Moore were involved in a play that ended with Alex Barns taking a mark in the pocket.


Alex kicked the goal as the Saints started to build belief they could come back.


Kingston struck again after Thomas Matsouliadis kicked the ball forward towards a pack of players, and Saints forward Hugo Fahlbusch-Moore roved the ball and kicked the goal.


The margin was suddenly 26 points in favour of Mundulla.


The Saints’ work rate had lifted all around the ground.


Kingston got a late goal in the quarter to cut the margin to 20 points – the Saints had finally come to play and were back in the game by the long break.


Campbell Watts, Ben Kennedy, Hagan Wright and Hugo Fahlbusch-Moore had good second quarters for the Saints.


Jacob Grosser, Elliott Jaeschke, Nick Mosey and Dylan Mosey continued to provide Mundulla with great service in the second quarter.


Kingston cut into the Tigers’ margin again after Ben Warner snapped a goal three minutes into the third quarter as the Saints continued their march back into the game.


Kingston was getting more of the ball and running harder than at the start of the game, attacking the goals, but started to score points instead of goals.


The Saints were getting great run from players such as Hagan Wright, Ben Kennedy, Tom Rogers, Chris Draper and Harry Tunkin as they were right back in the game.


Mundulla made Kingston pay as the Tigers went the length of the ground, where James Hinge kicked a goal.


Dylan Mosey had a long kick into the centre of the ground, where Jacob Pedler marked the ball and kicked it long again to where James Hinge had made good position at the top of the forward 50.


It was the goal they needed to steady the ship and push the margin out to 17 points.


James soon had another goal after he took another contested mark, proving to be a hard man to stop.


This pushed the margin out to 23 points and the Tigers appeared to have settled again.


Kingston continued to show fight as Saints coach Alex Barns put through a much-needed goal, and the Tigers’ lead was cut to 16 points.


Kingston soon had another goal after Harry Tunkin kicked through a straight kick, and the margin was back to 10.


Harry burst through and combined with Hugo Fahlbusch-Moore and Orestis Gambranis in a chain of handballs before Harry finished the work off with the goal.


Kingston was in the game with a chance late in the third quarter, and as the siren sounded for three-quarter time both teams would have liked their chances heading into the last term.


Mundulla struck first in the last quarter as Billy Wiese kicked the opening goal of the quarter after a chain of players worked to get him the ball.


The Tigers seemed to have all the answers.


Kingston fought back again after Alex Barns roved his own tap in the middle of the ground and kicked it long, where Jack Harding took a contested mark.


Jack kicked the goal to bring the Tigers’ lead back to nine points.


The Saints soon cut the Tigers’ lead even more after Thomas Matsouliadis kicked a goal.


Hagan Wright won a centre clearance where he kicked the ball long and Matsouliadis took a contested. mark.


Kingston had cut the margin to three points with plenty of time left, however Mundulla responded as they stepped up a gear.


Austin Davies kicked a steadying goal for the Tigers, roving a kick into the forward 50 by Nick Mosey to snap the goal.


The Tigers soon had another as Jack Guy kicked straight to stretch the margin out to 16 points.


Kingston had chances but could not convert in front of the goals, while Mundulla were getting back on top.


The Tigers soon had the sealing goal when Nathan Studham put through another goal after the Saints had missed three shots down the other end of the ground.


Mundulla got some icing on the cake when Jacob Pedlar kicked the last goal of the game after he roved the ball off the pack and snapped a goal.


The siren sounded not long after to signal that Mundulla had become back-to-back premiers.
