Tight contest at the top

The seventh round of the 2021 MG Plasterers South East Coast Basketball League Winter season was depleted by two forfeits, but that failed to dampen the on-court action last week.

The contest between the Cougars and Saints would determine second position on the Senior men’s ladder.

Once again for the Cougars it was the Toby de Wit show as he led his team to victory with 39 points.

His teammates continually worked to create good looks for their star player making it hard for the Saints to keep any sort of control on his scoring output.

The Schultz brothers worked hard for their side and managed to keep the game tight up to half time.

However, a big third quarter by the Cougars stretched the lead to double  figures and put the game out of reach for the Saints.

The final score was Cougars 65 to Saints 53.

The Cougars reasserted themselves in the Senior women’s competition with a comfortable win over the Bulldog/ Roos.

The Cougars had four players score in double figures led by Sarah Ritter with 22.

But the undermanned Bulldogs/  Roos worked hard before the five players eventually ran out of steam.

Cougars broke out to an early double figure lead, which the young Bulldogs/ Roos side managed to trim back to three points in the second quarter as  Ellie Bouchier and Siobhan Adams continued to impress.

Cougars found another level using their size and depth to put the game out reach and win by 18 points.
