Title defence in full swing

West Gambier v Mil Lel

West Gambier’s search for back to back premierships will begin on Saturday as they take on Mil Lel in the semi final of the Zema Estate Barber Shield at Frew Park.

The Roos ended the season as minor premiers with a record of 6-2 while Mil Lel reached the finals after finishing strong, especially in the 2025 portion of the season.

These sides have met twice this season with the Roos winning both meetings.

Despite that, they have been the two best teams in the two day format with West leading the league with four wins while Mil Lel have the second best record with three victories, with their only two day loss coming at the hands of the Roos.

West have been in fine form this season as they are currently on a six game winning streak and have been the team to beat all season.

Mil Lel will have a tough task at stopping the Roos batters who have been putting up big scores all season.

Across the board the Roos have players who can step up with the bat with not many weaknesses in the line up.

Openers Justin de Jong and Nuwan Gunawardana will look to set the tone for the side and help build a good total that will put pressure on Mil Lel.

Mil Lel’s bowling attack has been great in the back end of the season off the back of Boyd Millhouse and youngster Oliver McCracken who have been taking plenty of wickets.

To complement their bowling, Mil Lel’s batting has been solid of late, especially their top order of Jarrod Sanders, Will Rowland and Vaibhav Patel.

North Sportsmans V Penola

North Sportsmans and Penola will face off this Saturday in the semi final at Marist Park.

Both sides have had great success this season with the Tigers finishing just ahead of Penola on the ladder with one extra win.

These sides have met twice this season with each picking up a win.

Penola won the most recent match up in early February which was a two day game.

North have not had the best start to 2025 as they are still to win a game.

Penola on the other hand have picked up a win and a loss with their match against the Tigers being their latest win due to last week’s game being abandoned.

This season North have shown they can be a premiership winning side with great bowling and batting performances, especially early on in the season.

However, lately they have been somewhat inconsistent and will look to get back to their early season form.

The Tigers will require big performances from Elliott Fisher and Nick McInerney with the bat to help get the side in a good position to win.

Penola will look to improve on their batting performance from last round.

They struggled against Mil Lel, scoring 70 runs in 40 overs and letting eight wickets fall.

The Eagles will be keen to improve and have better performances from Jack Mullan while looking for another solid effort out of Lewis March.
