Title fight

The cream has risen to the top of the Limestone Coast Football Association with heavyweight clubs International and Gambier Centrals ready to fight for the premiership cup this Sunday.

The grand final will be played at Webb Street where Inter will search for a fourth consecutive premiership, while the Lions hope to break a four-year drought.

Form is on Inter’s side after a flawless run to the decider and has not lost game for 431 days.

No team has been able to topple the black and blue as the likes of Matthew Bueti, Noah Koko Htoo and Sam Bueti have been brutal in front of goal.

Matthew Bueti dominated the goal-scoring competition with 26, 11 more than the next best, while goalkeeper Brayden May has been solid in defence only conceding three strikes.

A strong group of youngsters have also given the squad a new gear with their pace and agility.

However, Centrals hope to spark an upset and can draw confidence from the latest clash.

The closest battle between the two rivals was the qualifying final a fortnight ago and the Lions fought hard to fall just one goal short of Inter.

To reach the decider Centrals overcame a determined Apollo side to win the preliminary final one nil, while Inter enjoyed a week off.

The Lions’ attack has been led by Brayden Coppick with 15 goals.

Captain Jake Blackwell can also possess a deadly strike and Lewis March has the ability to create chances with his speed off the wing.

However, Centrals face a mountain to climb if the club is to taste the ultimate success.

Inter has set the pace and the pressure will be on the black and blue to complete the prefect season.

But the Lions will not die wondering and are hungry to finally dethrone the reigning champions on the biggest day.

The two rivals also enjoy strong representation throughout the day with Inter playing in five deciders and Centrals possessing three sides.

A tight reserves season will go down to the wire in the grand final between Inter and Apollo.

Inter also holds the high ground in the Under 17 decider against Blue Lake after an undefeated campaign.

Centrals and Inter have been the teams to beat in a closely fought Under 14’s competition and the pair will fight for the trophy this week- end.

The Under 12 grand final between Inter and the Lions will kick off the day’s proceedings from 8.50am.
