Tough crows flying high

After four years of finishing second best, Keith is sick of being the bridesmaid and determined to finish on top in 2021.

So far the Crows have done everything right, winning the minor premiership and the recent semi-final against Penola.

But now their ultimate test awaits on the biggest stage at Padthaway and standing in their way is a fired-up Eagles’ outfit searching for a maiden KNTNA flag.

Grand finals are nothing new for Georgia Casdow and her girls, but Lucindale has proven to be Keith’s kryptonite on three consecutive occasions.

However, the tricolours believe they have what it takes to win for the first time since 2015 after a formidable campaign.

“We are a bit hungrier now,” Cadsow said.

“In the past we have won so many grand finals it gets to the point where you expect it to happen, but the new players have added a new dynamic to the team.

“Our attack line is definitely stronger than what we have had in the last five seasons.

“We have a pretty young and fresh side travelling along nicely.”

Leading the charge is experienced campaigner Mandy Harper alongside centre Whitney Smith, who are move determined to make up for previous defeats.

The seasoned duo is joined by a host of young stars looking to make their mark on the club.

Newcomer Danielle Vankalken has displayed talent in the shooting role since her arrival and Stephanie Lubcke is bracing herself for a maiden grand final experience after recovering from an ACL reconstruction.

Under 15 player Macy Llewellyn hopes to continue her rise as does Kim Maynard, who is a Wing Defence and a relation to Adelaide Crows foundation player Rodney.

Penola has proven to be a worthy adversary of the Crows in 2021.

The Crows easily won the first fixture before the Eagles swooped in to record the tricolours’ only downpoint of the year.

But when it mattered most Keith pulled off a gutsy win over the blue and white to score an early trop to the decider.

“Penola is very strong with a good blend of old and new players,” Cadsow said.

“They beat us in the minor rounds quite convincingly but we managed to hang on in the final.

“Even though the margin was very small, I felt the win never got away from us and I felt like we just had control of it.

“Jordyn Adams from the Adelaide Premier League has been a big in for them being very tall, strong and athletic.

“April Possingham has teamed up well with Georgia Winter as a combination, while the coach Kaitlin Egan is a big factor for them.”

After many years of heartache, Cadsow is determined to lead the Crows to success.

“It is another grand final for us and I am getting the feeling it might be our turn this time,” she said.

“We are pretty annoyed to lose four in a row and the pain has not gone away.”
