Beachport is mourning the recent death of fishing industry identity Frank Corigliano.

His funeral will be held at the Beachport cemetery at 1pm tomorrow (August 12) and afterwards mourners will gather at the Beachport Bowling Club.

Mr Corigliano traced his paternal lineage to Italian migrants to Beachport in colonial times.

His formative years were spent in the Beachport harbourmaster’s house as his father, also called Frank, held this role.

Frank Corigliano (junior) began a 44-year in the fishing industry in 1950 and eventually owned and operated his own professional lobster licence.

He served as president of the South East Professional Fishermens Association and retained an interest in the industry long after selling his licence.

Like his father, he served on the board of management of the former SAFCOL – the South Australian Fishermen’s Cooperative Limited.

Mr Corigliano (senior) had been one of the foundation directors when SAFCOL was formed at Beachport in 1945.
