Tributes flow for regional sporting identity

Noted Mount Burr sporting identity Bill McDonald has recently died at the age of 90.

His funeral is being held at 2pm today at the Robe Golf Club.

Mr McDonald was a strong supporter of the Mount Burr United Football Club and a life member of the Millicent Racing Club.

His other community interests included the presidency of the Millicent branch of the Liberal Party and serving as an elected member on the Beachport District Council in the 1950s and again in the 1980s.

He had scaled back his farming interests in recent years.

He had sold his major Mount Burr grazing property Whites Heath in 2017 to Thomas Foods International.

It had been held by the McDonald family for the previous 81 years.

A significant portion of Whites Heath had earlier been sold by Mr McDonald around 20 years ago and so the 2017 sale to Thomas Foods International ended his association with cattle grazing.

Known for his genial manner, Mr McDonald is survived by his wife Susan, their two daughters and their families.
