Aman has been arrested and had his car impounded at Dismal Swamp on Saturday.
About 8.50pm officers responded to reports of vehicles doing burnouts on Wandilo Road.
Police attempted to stop one of the vehicles involved, a Ford ute, however it failed to stop.
The Ford then left the road out of control and the driver abandoned the car and ran off.
Officers chased the man on foot and arrested him in a nearby pine forest.
The man was breathtested and allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.169, more than three times the legal limit.
A 36-year-old man from Moana was charged with failing to stop, drink driving, hindering police, driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, and failing to answer questions relating to the owner.
The vehicle was impounded for 28 days and the man received a 12 month instant loss of licence.
He was bailed to appear in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court on September 27.
Meanwhile, police are investigating a fatal crash at Padthaway on Sunday night.
Emergency services rushed to Grubbed Road after receiving a report of a single vehicle crash just before 9pm, finding a ute which had collided with a tree.
Country Fire Service crews were first on scene and immediately commenced CPR on the injured driver.
Paramedics quickly took over but sadly, the 41-year-old Padthaway man could not be saved.
Major Crash investigators attended and examined the scene.
The man’s death is the 46th on South Australian roads so far this year.
The road toll at the same time last year was 61.
