Two-day action ready to wrap

Mil Lel v South Gambier

Mil Lel have put themselves in a great position to pick up another crucial Barber Shield win on Saturday to help their chances of playing finals cricket as they return to the field with the two-day format to take on South Gambier at Frew Park.

Mil Lel were set the task of slowing down the Dees last Saturday and that was exactly what they did, holding South to only 108 runs.

After the early end of innings Mil Lel made the most of their opportunity last week and got off to a hot start with the bat as they trail by just 39 runs.

Mil Lel are in a good position to do some serious damage with the bat on Saturday as they currently have Will Rowland and Vaibhav Patel at the crease.

Rowland has already started well as he sits on 26 runs while Patel has yet to register a run after facing 14 balls.

Despite that Patel is coming off a great innings last round where he made 39 runs so Mil Lel should be confident that he can get some runs on the board.

The Dees will need to have a fast start to have a chance of winning.

Early wickets will be crucial for them and they will need their top bowlers like Jared Kuhl and Elwood Geary to do some damage.

FROM THE START: East Gambier’s Ben Hentschke will start the day at the crease on Saturday as the Doggies look to get a crucial win.

East Gambier v West Gambier

East Gambier will pick up where they left off at the crease this Saturday as they take on West Gambier at Allan Scott Park and look to get back into the top four.

The Doggies spent most of day one fielding as the Roos made a big score of 161.

East did a good job at putting a dent in the lead with the remaining overs from Saturday’s match, making 51 runs in the 22 overs while only losing one wicket.

This has them in a good position to resume on Saturday with Ben Hentschke and Emerson Marks at the crease.

Both are reliable batters who have had big games this season and will need to step up again on Saturday.

Down the list the Doggies have even more talent with captain Alex Hentschke and Connor Little still to bat.

The Roos will be looking to remove Hentschke and Marks early with their top bowlers Bray Stephenson and Sam Willis likely keen to do some damage.

Both of these teams are in desperate need of a win and as it stands the Doggies are out of the top four so a win on Saturday will help their chances of getting back into the finals.

West, on the other hand, would like a win to help their chances of taking the top spot on the ladder as there is only a difference of 3.2 points between them and the first placed Tigers.

EARLY WICKETS: Elwood Geary and South Gambier will hope to take some early wickets on Saturday as they face Mil Lel at Frew Park.

Penola v North Sportsmans

The Tigers are in store for a big day at the crease as they look to chase down the Eagles’ big score at McCorquindale Park in Penola.

The Eagles spent all of day one at the crease and made the most of their opportunity as they scored 148 with big performances from Jack Mullan and Bredon Smart.

Despite the big run total the Tigers are definitely capable of chasing it down as they have made run totals bigger than Penola’s this season.

North are going to need their top batters to step up in this match if they want to hold their position at the top of the ladder.

Like most of the season the Tigers will need big performances from Elliott Fisher, Nick McInerney and captain Mitch Lewis who have been reliable run scorers.

This should be an interesting contest as despite both of these sides sitting in the top four neither can afford to drop any more games before the end of the season given how tight the race to the finals is this year.
