The third round of the SE Female Open Age Cricket League was an up-anddown affair with two contrasting games on Sunday.

Mil Lel continued its unbeaten run with a come-from-behind win over North Sportsman’s at Malseed Park.

The Tigers batted first and recovered nicely from losing opener Nicole Vause cheaply.

Kirra Schultz and Fiona Young put on a steady 70-run partnership for the second wicket with the latter being the aggressor scoring 38 off 40 balls.

But after Victoria Radley and Jennifer Peterson dismissed both batters, Mil Lel restricted North to 3/88 from 20 overs. Radley was the pick of the bowlers with 2/8 from three overs.

Mil Lel’s run chase got off to a shaky start after Young trapped Laura Wing in front for a golden duck in the opening over. Young also claimed the wicket of Lydia Megaw and the Tigers were sniffing a victory with Mil Lel 3/31. However, remaining opening bat Chloe McKenzie had other ideas and singlehandedly turned the game. McKenzie took on the bowling and scored six boundaries on her way to 47 off just 38 balls.

She was the only Mil Lel batter to surpass double figures and her side looked unstoppable, while she was at the crease. But McKenzie’s innings came to a crashing end after Schultz went through her defences and suddenly it was game on with Mil Lel still requiring 19 runs for victory.

Despite losing two more late wickets, Madeline Burley and Niamh Leishman pushed Mil Lel over the line.

Naracoorte proved no match for Bordertown in the other game at Virgo Park.

Bordertown batted first and posted the strong total of 2/114 and Naracoorte struggled to find a response. The home side’s bowlers bowled tight lines and restricted Naracoorte to the small score of 7/48.
