Division 1 – West Gambier v Uniting
Uniting moved back into first place on the ladder after they took down West Gambier on Saturday at West.
Uniting started strong in the men’s doubles, claiming the win in both matches.
In the top doubles, Uniting’s Andrew van den Hurk and Jace Maxwell went head to head against West’s George White and Brady Cook.
The Uniting pair got off to an early lead as they took the first set 6-2.
With a lot of ground to make up White and Cook battled hard in the second set, taking van den Hurk and Maxwell to a tiebreaker.
However they were unable to take the match to a third set as the Uniting pair sealed the win in the tiebreaker.
In the bottom doubles Uniting’s Mat Stark and Kobe Cole took care of business as they got the win over West’s Peyton Robinson and Toby Stutley, 6-1, 6-4.
Heading into the singles, Uniting kept their doubles’ momentum going as the two top men in van den Hurk and Stark secured big wins.
van den Hurk took on White and came away with a 6-0 victory while Stark had a 6-1 win over Shaunn Robinson.
In the bottom singles the two sides spit the sets as one of the West men finally got a score on the board.
It was Peyton Robinson who got West going, as he took the court against Maxwell and snared the win 6-2.
The bottom singles was a tight contest as Cole and Stutley faced off, with Cole ending the day undefeated as he came away with a narrow 7-5 victory.
On the ladies side of the draw, Uniting were able to take two of the three sets.
In the top doubles West’s Jess Stutley and Emily Jolley took on Uniting’s Tessa Megaw and Ashlea Dunn as Megaw and Dunn got the set on the board, winning 6-2.
In the middle doubles match Uniting were able to claim another set as Megaw and Vanessa Maxwell faced Stutley and Ella Jolley.
Stutley and Jolley fought hard but came up short, losing 6-4.
In the bottom doubles West were able to get a win as the Jolley sisters secured a 6-3 victory over Jade Delaney and Dunn.
In the top singles Megaw was able to finish her day on a high note as she took the win over Stutley in a competitive 6-4 match.
Emily Jolley was able to get a second set on the board as she had a tough battle with Delaney, coming out on top 7-5.
In the bottom singles the set went to Ella Jolley after Maxwell retired.
Uniting got the important win on Saturday with the final score being 9-3 which now puts them ahead of West on the ladder as they now lead by only seven points.
Glencoe v Reidy Park
On Saturday Reidy Park had a victory on the road as they took on Glencoe in Glencoe.
The two clubs split the wins in the men’s doubles as Glencoe claimed the top doubles while Reidy secured the bottom.
In the top doubles Glencoe’s Dylan Childs and Patrick Mitchell took on Reidy’s Zayne Young and Harrison Ellis.
In the first set Childs and Mitchell took the lead with ease as they won the set 6-1.
Young and Ellis fought back in the second and got close to taking it to a super tiebreaker set but came up short as the Glencoe duo snared the win, 7-5.
In the bottom doubles Reidy’s Ben Gaffney and Will Cameron had a win over Glencoe’s James Braun and Will Maloney.
The two pairs battled hard as Gaffney and Cameron worked hard as they took the first set 6-4 and the second in a tiebreaker.
Glencoe were able to get a few more sets on the board in the singles as they took three of the four matches.
In the top singles Childs and Mitchell both came away with the victory as they both defeated Young and Ellis 6-1.
In Gaffney and Braun’s match the even matchup continued from the doubles as Gaffney was able to get the slight edge over Braun, winning in a tiebreaker.
Maloney was able to secure another set for Glencoe as he took down Cameron 6-4 match in the bottom singles.
Reidy were very strong on the ladies side as they took all three sets in the doubles.
Maggie Collins and Sarah Brown had a close match against Glencoe’s Sarah Edwards and Giann Ferguson in the top doubles.
Collins and Brown were able to secure the set as they defeated Edwards and Ferguson 7-5.
In the middle match Edwards and Shae Delaney took on Maggie and Rosie Collins and put up a good fight but could not come away with the win, falling short in a 6-4 loss.
In the bottom doubles Ferguson and Delaney took on Brown and Collins with the Reidy pair securing the sweep as they won 6-1.
Glencoe struggled to get much going again in the singles as Edwards could not get the win over Collins in the top singles, losing 6-4 while Brown and Collins had victories in their matches, both winning 6-1.
Reidy Park’s final score over Glencoe was 8-4 which helped them widen the gap between the two sides on the ladder as Reidy sits comfortably in third.
Division 2
In division 2 it was a top of the table clash between Mount Gambier and West Gambier Blue with West taking hold of the number one spot on the ladder after defeating Gambier 12-0.
In the other game it was much more competitive as Suttontown/Glencoe took on West Gambier Red.
West Red put up a good fight but could not come away with another victory as the combined side secured the win 7-5.
This win for Suttontown/Glencoe gets them closer to the top two as they only trail Mount Gambier by six points.
Division 3
Mil Lel came away with an important win over Mount Gambier, 10-2. This win gets Mil Lel closer to first place as they trail first place Centrals/Mount Schank by 0.5 points.
In the other match on Saturday Centrals/Mount Schank secured another win as they defeated Uniting 9-3 at Olympic Park.
Ladies Doubles
Reidy Park got the win over Glencoe after Glencoe forfeited while West Gambier had a solid 6-0 win against Mount Schank.
Mixed Doubles
Uniting/Glencoe had a 6-0 win over Mount Gambier Green while Mount Schank defeated Moorak Green, 4-2.
Suttontown came away with a big win on Saturday as they took on Mount Gambier Blue, winning 6-0.
