Uniting winning streak continues with big win

Uniting v Glencoe


Uniting’s winning streak continued on Saturday as Glencoe headed to Corriedale Park to face the reigning premiers.


In the men’s doubles both sides split the sets with each team winning one.


In the top doubles Glencoe’s Dylan Childs and Patrick Mitchell faced Uniting’s Andrew van den Hurk and Mat Stark.


Despite putting up a solid fight against the Glencoe pair, van den Hurk and Stark could not get the job done in the first set losing 6-3.


In the second set Childs and Mitchell continued their dominant run to start the season as they sealed the set with a 6-4 win.


In the bottom doubles, Uniting’s Jace Maxwell and Kobe Cole were able to get a win on the board as they faced Glencoe’s James Braun and Will Maloney.


Maxwell and Cole took the first set with ease, winning 6-1 but faced a bit of adversity in the second as Braun and Maloney fought back.


Despite showing some fight Braun and Maloney could not take it to a super tiebreaker as they fell short 7-5.


In the singles Uniting found a lot of success, winning three matches.


SOLID WIN: Glencoe’s Dylan Childs came away with a solid win in his doubles on Saturday.

In the top singles it was the showdown of van den Hurk and Childs.


After back to back losses to Childs, van den Hurk got over the hump and was victorious, winning 6-4.


Mitchell was able to claim the lone singles set for Glencoe as he took on Stark.


Their match finished in a similar way to the top singles as Mitchell won 6-4.


In the bottom singles Maxwell and Cole finished their days undefeated as Maxwell got the 6-1 win over Braun and Cole claimed the set over Maloney 6-4.


On the ladies side Uniting were very dominant as they claimed all the sets.


In the top doubles, Uniting’s Tessa Megaw and Ashlea Dunn faced Giaan Ferguson and Shae Delaney with Megaw and Dunn winning 6-0.


Megaw finished her doubles undefeated as she and Vanessa Maxwell took on Ferguson and Ashlea Pfitzner with the Uniting pair winning 6-0.


In the bottom doubles Uniting’s Jade Delaney and Maxwell took home the set despite a tough fight from Glencoe’s Delaney and Pfitzner as Uniting won 6-4.


In the singles it was a tough day for Glencoe as in the top singles Megaw and Ferguson faced off with Megaw winning 6-0.


Dunn ended her day well also as she too won 6-0, defeating Delaney.


In the bottom singles Pfitzner put up a good fight against Delaney but could not get the job done, losing 6-3.


UNDEFEATED: Uniting’s Tessa Megaw had an undefeated day, winning all her matches.

Uniting defeated Glencoe 10-2.


Mount Schank/Mil Lel/Mount Gambier v Reidy Park


Reidy Park took on the division 1 combined side on Saturday as the two sides faced off in Mil Lel.


On the men’s side of the draw Reidy were strong as they nearly took home all the sets.


In the top doubles Mount Schank’s Alex Laube and Mount Gambier’s William Le Cornu took on Reidy’s Zayne Young and Harry Ellis.


Young and Ellis started strong, winning the first set 6-0.


In the second set Laube and Le Cornu had a strong comeback and nearly forced the third set but just could not get over the line as Young and Ellis sealed the match with a 7-5 win.


TOP PERFORMER: Uniting’s Vanessa Maxwell came away with wins in both her doubles matches on Saturday.

In the bottom doubles Reidy’s Ben Gaffney and Will Cameron faced Mount Schank’s Brendan McInnes and Mil Lel’s Lochie Arnold.


Gaffney and Cameron took home the win fairly easily, winning the first set 6-1 then backing it up with another strong performance as they won the second set 6-3.


In the singles Young and Laube faced off with Young taking the set despite Laube putting up a tough fight, Young was victorious 6-3.


Le Cornu was able to claim the lone set for the combined side as he had a tough battle against Ellis, winning 6-4.


In the bottom two singles Reidy was able to take the set in both matches as Gaffney came out on top against McInnes, winning 6-4 while Cameron defeated Arnold 6-2.


On the ladies side Reidy were strong in the doubles, winning every match.


In the top doubles Mil Lel’s Jess Douglas and Mount Schank’s Abbey Hood faced Reidy’s Bailey Young and Maggie Collins.


Young and Collins took the set 6-0.


Reidy continued their great form as Young and Sarah Brown defeated Mil Lel’s Douglas and Kelsey Boneham 6-0.


In the bottom doubles Reidy picked up another 6-0 victory as Collins and Brown defeated Hood and Boneham.


In the singles it was a similar story as Young defeated Douglas 6-1 while Collins picked up another set, defeating Hood 6-1.


In the bottom doubles Brown finished strong as she too finished her day on a high with a 6-0 win over Boneham.


Reidy Park defeated Mount Schank/Mil Lel/Mount Gambier – 11-1.


Division 2


In division 2 Mount Gambier took on West Gambier Blue at Gambier.


West Blue came away with the upset win over Gambier, defeating them 10-2 and giving them their first loss of the season.


In the other match Suttontown/Glencoe hosted West Gambier Red in Suttontown with the home side coming away with the win 7-5.


Division 3


In division 3 Centrals/Mount Schank took on Mil Lel at Olympic Park with the combined side picking up their first loss of the season, losing to Mil Lel 7-5.


At Gambier Mount Gambier took on Suttontown with the home side winning 8-4.


Ladies Doubles


In the ladies doubles Reidy Park took on West Gambier at Olympic Park with the top two teams facing off.


Reidy came away with the win to move top of the ladder, winning 6-0.


Mil Lel White hosted Mount Schank with Mil Lel picking up the win 6-0 while Mil Lel Green suffered a tough loss to Glencoe in Glencoe, losing 6-0.


Mixed Doubles


In mixed doubles there was a thrilling match in the Uniting/Glencoe and Suttontown clash as Suttontown came away with the win on games, winning 26-24.


Moorak Green picked up a win at home, defeating Glencoe 4-2 while Moorak Gray also got a win on the weekend, defeating Mount Schank 4-2.


The two Mount Gambier sides faced off with Gambier Green winning the bragging rights, defeating Gambier Blue 5-1.
