Veterans tee up good scores

Fifty-nine veteran golfers visited Naracoorte and found the greens in good nick and the fairways hard and fast, resulting in good scoring.

Naracoorte legends Max Monfries’ and Arthur Porter’s families provided lovely annual trophies for this event, and first division was won by Mount Gambier’s Phil Bliss with 40 points.

Runner up was the consistent Gordie Fleming of Robe with 37 and third was Millicent’s Mark Pilmore with 35.

Second division went to local Bob Davies with 37 from playing partner Max Clifford with 36 and Bordertown’s Brian Slape with 34.

The nearest the pins went to Peter Delaine, Doug MacPherson and Peter Barras, while the Scotch went home to Millicent with Jimmy Hyland and the coveted Ross Orchard trophy was won by Peter Emetlis and Gavin Sparrow.

The group will next meet at Penola on October 14 and then Beachport on October 28.
