Vigneron steps into new role as councillor

Coonawarra vigneron Chris Brodie will replace resigned councillor Rick Paltridge on Wattle Range Council and is set to attend his first monthly meeting in Millicent this
afternoon.

His status will be as an observer and he will sit in the public gallery.

He will undertake an induction process in the coming weeks.

After making the customary declaration of fidelity before a Justice of the Peace, Mr Brodie will then join Mayor Des Noll and the 10 other councillors in their deliberations at their November monthly meeting.

The vacancy arose after Mr Paltridge resigned as a Riddoch ward representative with immediate effect on August 3 after almost three years in office.

Mr Brodie was the only candidate at close of nominations at noon on Thursday.

An official announcement was made at 4pm that day from the Electoral Commission in Adelaide.

Mr Brodie is the former General Manager – Vineyards for Katnook Estate and has lived and worked in the area for over 20 years.

Before this role, he worked at Wingara Wine Group (Deakin Estate) in Mildura and had an earlier career in horticulture.

His term in office will last around 12 months as the next state-wide four-yearly council elections will be held in October, 2022.
