South Gambier v Penola South Gambier is set to take on Penola at Blue Lake Sports Park on Saturday in the second day match of the season.
Both sides had up and down games last round where they had patches where they played well and patches when they did not.
After a strong start to the season Penola has slowed down a bit, losing three matches in a row.
This is now an important first stepo to get their season back on track.
South are in a similar position as they too only have one win but have played one less game due to a no result.
The Dees will need to have a well rounded performance if they want to pick up the win.
Players like Robbie Drenthen, who was a major contributor with the bat and ball last round, will need to step up again.
Another player with the bat who will need to perform is captain Elwood Geary who had a solid second innings at the crease but struggled a bit in the first.
Penola will need to improve on their fielding from last game, after letting West score 220 in an innings.
Bredon Smart and Michael Waters have been their top bowlers this season and they will need to have solid performances in this game.
At the crease Jack Mullan is coming off a great performance last round where he made 125. He will be looking to take that form into this game.
With both sides in need of a win this should be a great competitive game. West Gambier v Mil Lel West Gambier will host Mil Lel at Malseed Park on Saturday.
Both sides are coming off great performances last week and looking to get another win under their belt.
So far this season West has struggled a bit on their home deck, losing both matches at Malseed Park.
Hopefully those two games are outliers, and the Roos can start stacking up wins on the deck.
Mil Lel will look to build off the performance they had with the ball as they had one of their best fielding performances this season.
Off the back of that Mil Lel also batted very well in their first innings, making 205.
Mil Lel captain Jack Miller is looking forward to the contest against West as well as having a full team.
“I’m looking forward to the West game coming this week, everyone will be back so it will be good to have a full squad to choose from,” he said.
“West will put us through our paces but we look forward to the challenge they’ll throw at us.” East Gambier v North Sportsmans Top of the ladder East Gambier and second placed North Sportsmans will face off at Allan Scott Park in the top of the table clash on Saturday.
Both sides have been very solid this season with the Doggies coming off a loss heading into this game while the Tigers are coming off a great win.
The Doggies struggled a bit at both ends last round, allowing 205 runs in an innings and only making 136 in their lone batting innings.
Despite solid performances from Ben Robinson and captain Alex Hentschke they will need a lot more contributors in this game if they want any chances of beating North.
One of North’s top players from last round was Nick McInerney who helped get his side over the line with the bat.
With the ball North will be looking to get another great performance out of all their bowlers who pulled their weight and stepped up and took wickets.
With the top two teams going head to head this should be a really exciting match as one side looks to hold their first place spot while the other looks to take it.
