Multiple generations came together recently as Mount Gambier’s Italo Australian club hosted its annual sauce making day.
Club president Rocco Bueti said those taking part ranged in age from 12 to 84, all working together to cook up just under 300 700ml bottles of sauce.
“We had plenty of people help out and I think that everyone enjoyed the camaraderie and the fun,” he said.
Mr Bueti said the sauce was used for the club’s pizza and pasta nights and also for Sunday night meals throughout the soccer season.
“You can buy Passata sauce but the ladies who volunteer in the kitchen prefer to cook with homemade sauce because their food is cooked with love and authenticity, so they choose to use something they have made with their own hands,” he said.
“This day keeps tradition alive and we hope that in the years to come the younger members will continue on these traditions.
“It was a fun day for all involved, we love doing it and it is great for the club because not only does it keep tradition alive but it gives our food authenticity.”
