The Wattle Range South Australian Country Fire Services (CFS) Brigade is seeking volunteers in Millicent and Penola to assist in administration and radio operation roles.
These roles are a great way of serving the community for those who do not want to be on the frontline fighting fires.
Wattle Range CFS Communications Captain Todd Kimber said volunteers communicated directly to crews about incidents upon dispatch and sought more crews to assist them or enlisted different agencies to come and help.
Mr Kimber said the role communication members played was vitally important because they also liaised with South Australia Police, SA Ambulance service units and the SES, providing variety in the job.
“We are appealing for anyone over the age of 18 with their own driver’s license that is willing to donate at least a day a week of their time,” he said.
“Most employers understand volunteers may need to go out if there is an emergency.
“We are looking for people that either have some spare time they do not know what to do with or who want to give back to the community.
“It is a great opportunity for individuals that are either in the process of retiring or have retired that want to keep active and become part of another social group in the interest of helping the community.”
