“One of the proudest moments of my career,” is how Millicent cattleman Scott de Bruin described being awarded an Honorary Life Membership of the Australian Wagyu Association.
The Mayura Station owner received the accolade at a recent industry conference in Perth attended by 450 of his peers including his good friend and industry icon Laird Morgan.
“The title of Honorary Life Member is the highest honour the Australian Wagyu Association can bestow,” Mr Morgan said.
“It recognises not just years of service, but a legacy of impact – by a member whose contributions have shaped the very foundation of who we are and where we’re heading.”
The official AWA citation also highlighted the positive impact on the brand and industry of Mr de Bruin for almost 30 years.
“From welcoming Australia’s first fullblood Wagyu cattle in 1998 to pioneering branded beef, premium packaging, and Wagyu education for chefs worldwide, the vision of Mr de Bruin helped transform Australian Wagyu into what it is today: the world’s luxury beef,” the citation stated.
“As AWA President from 2013-15, he led game-changing innovations like the world’s first Wagyu-specific EBVs, single-step genomic analysis, and the launch of the Elite Wagyu Sale.
“His legacy is the global benchmark for excellence – innovation, integrity, and bold thinking.
“Huge congratulations on this well-deserved and Mr De Bruin is just the 9th recipient of this prestigious honour in AWA history.”
