Walk-up vaccine clinic supported

Despite little mainstream media promotion, more than 20 local residents received COVID vaccinations at a walk-up clinic at Mount Burr last week.

An SA Health van staffed by nurses was parked near the town’s general store in Thomas Drive on Thursday and bookings were not required.

Pre-booked vaccinations for the general public are available at medical clinics at Millicent and Beachport, the KCA Millicent Mill and a remote Millicent Hospital hub at the former vet clinic.

The SE Voice asked the Limestone Coast Local Health Network for the number of public and company vaccinations administered at the KCA Millicent Mill where there are 400 employees and contractors.

In response, the health network provided a vaccination update statement.

“We received a great response from the Mount Burr community on our mobile vaccination van and we plan to visit other industry sites for a second round with our vaccination van to ensure more people in the community can roll up their sleeves and get vaccinated,” the statement said.

“We encourage people to continue to roll up to get vaccinated and have appointments available, with walk-in appointments offered at selected health network run clinics including Mount Gambier, Millicent and Kingston.

“We are always looking for ways to make the COVID-19 vaccine more accessible and will roll-out more mobile and pop-up clinics wherever possible.”
