Wanderers show class with solid win

Wanderers came out firing in its Mount Gambier Softball League match against Warriors White, who were without pitcher Taylor Wilsmore on Saturday. Erin Chaplin was their pitcher and it did not take long for the hot bats of Wanderers to hit the scoreboard with three runs in the first innings.

Rej Smith was on the mound for Wanderers and did not allow the Warriors side to score in the first two innings. Three consecutive singles to Jo Hart, Em Hart and Smith increased Wanderes’ lead before Warriors finally broke through in the third.

After Clare Chaplin’s huge double to left field a tight game was in store at 5-3. But Wanderers recorded six safe hits in the next two innings headlined by a massive triple to Em Hart, who starred in her side’s 10-4 victory. The all Concordes clash between White and United was an entertaining match.

With regular pitcher Dana Jones absent, Sarah Thomson stepped up and pitched for the first time and was excellent over four innings, conceding only three walks with her off speed variation. However, Concordes White batted exceptionally well with Elysha Collins and Emily Sutherland both recording four hits each.

Collins racked up four RBIs, while Jo Hopgood, Billie Jones and Sam Brown all had three. Allana Jones was a handy inclusion for United as she hit safely twice and shared outfield duties with Leonie McCallum, who took four handy catches. White scored consistently in every innings and ran out easy winners.
