Members of the Millicent-based South East Family History Group currently have limited access to their leased premises as they await completion of repairs relating to a leaking roof.
The SEFHG has had a peppercorn lease for the past decade with Wattle Range Council for the one-time classrooms which were erected for Millicent Primary School in 1910.
Council has engaged local contractors to fix the roof and repair the interior damage at a cost of $35,000.
SEFHG president Noel Boyle said there was water damage to the passageway walls and the walls in the computer room have had water regularly pouring down them.
“The carpet in the computer room was also damaged and continually wet for about six months,” Mr Boyle said.
“Last month when we had a dry spell the plumbers were able to replace the box guttering and stop the leaks.
“The computer room will be out of action for at least two weeks as work will commence on repairing the walls and drying them out.
“At the same time the carpet will be ripped up and when things settle down it will be replaced with new carpet.
“What this means is the computer room and its seven computers will be out of action for a while.
“The library section of the SEFHG will still be open along with our 2.30pm cup of tea each Wednesday and Saturday.”
