Wattle Range reshuffle

There was some good-natured banter including tongue-in-cheek references to “sackings” when Wattle Range Council re-defined its membership of its audit and risk committee at its July monthly meeting in Millicent.

The meeting appointed Mount Gambier lawyer Lucy Peters as the third independent member.

This prompted acting council chief executive Paul Duka to state there should only be two elected members on the committee and not the current three.

Mayor Des Noll said the audit and risk committee was an Important part of council administration and Councillors John Drew and David Walshaw should be retained.

“I am happy to stand down as a voting member on the audit and risk committee and still attend its meetings as an observer,” Mayor Noll said.

He then invited a motion from the floor to reflect this status.

The mayoral remarks prompted Crs Dennis Muhovics and Peter Dunnicliff to joke the mayor was sacking himself.

However, Cr Deb Agnew chose softer language and suggested the motion note the mayor had stepped aside.

The eventual motion made no reference to Mayor Noll and only states council had reaffirmed the appointments of Crs Walshaw and Drew.
