WEST Wimmera Shire Council will donate $2500 to support BlazeAid’s recovery efforts following the recent fires in the Little Desert National Park area.


This donation will help cover the mobilisation costs of bringing the BlazeAid team to the region to assist property owners with rebuilding their fences and providing recovery support.


BlazeAid, a volunteer-based organisation renowned for its fast response to natural disasters, has set up a camp at Goroke Recreation Reserve and is already assisting local property owners in need.


The group primarily focuses on rebuilding fences, but also also assists with other recovery efforts, such as cleaning up burnt gardens, helping to alleviate the trauma many residents face.


Council’s decision to support BlazeAid was based on the urgent need for recovery services in the wake of the fires, which have impacted approximately 100,000 hectares, or 95% of the Little Desert National Park.


Mayor Tim Meyer said many farmers and property owners urgently needed to repair fencing to continue their operations.


“BlazeAid’s mobilisation to the region is vital to restoring infrastructure,” he said.


“BlazeAid has a strong track record of providing essential recovery services in the aftermath of natural disasters.


“With extensive damage caused by the recent fires, this funding will help ensure the necessary recovery efforts can begin quickly and efficiently.”


The $2500 donation will go towards the cost of mobilising BlazeAid’s team, which includes volunteer caravanners and support staff.


BlazeAid will be working in the region for the next several months.
