Mount Gambier’s Kai Allen has had the last race in the second round of his inaugural Repco Supercars season cut short despite putting his best qualifying position on the board.
Allen raced for Penrite Racing at the Melbourne SuperSprint at Albert Park over the weekend as one of the main support categories for the 2025 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.
Heavy rainfall on Sunday led to Race 4 being abandoned due to the slippery track conditions, with Allen unable to show his skills despite qualifying 7th for the race and proving he was “one of the fastest cars on the track” in wet conditions on his debut.
On Thursday, the young gun recorded 18th in Practice 1 and 8th in Practice 2.
Allen qualified 18th for Race 1 on Thursday but fell back a couple of spots to finish 20th before moving up a spot to finish 12th in Race 2 on Friday after qualifying 13th.
After the “up and down start to the weekend” he qualified 15th for Race 3 on Saturday which he converted to 13th position.
Allen was “really looking forward to starting off P7” in Race 4, but the race was unfortunately washed away on Sunday.
Following the weekend, Allen has moved up a spot on the table and is now 19th in the Repco Supercars 2025 standings.
He is currently in New Zealand preparing for the 2025 ITM Taupo Super 440 which will take place next month.
