Williams runs away with win

Past multiple winner Owen Williams again took the honours in the annual Rivoli Bay beach run earlier this month.

The Lake Leake farmer has a stranglehold on the event whatever the weather.

The Millicent Runners and organiser Brad Tilley put out an open invitation to members of the public to join them at their yearly Jetty to Jetty event on January 6 and more than 20 accepted.

As with the previous five years, it was a run or walk, starting at 7am at the Southend Jetty and following the beach around Rivoli Bay to the Beachport Jetty.

Some of the participants ran the distance while others chose to walk.

It is regarded as a low key, social run where there is no entry fee, no prizes, minimal support and no course markings.

Based on GPS readings, the route along the shore comes in at 18km.

The beach run by the Millicent Runners is timed to coincide with two other community events.

Beachport traditionally holds a Market Day on Railway Terrace and an annual Duck Race fundraiser at the Pool of Siloam each January.

The 2024 street market was a runaway success but steady rain marred the duck race.

Nevertheless, the Beachport District Development Association was still pleased that 1300 ducks were sold.
