Win slips through Mozzies’ fingers

Rendelsham 9/204 defeated Mount Burr 10/97

A masterful Rendelsham easily accounted for Mount Burr at home on Saturday in round five of the Millicent/Naracoorte Cricket Association.

Rendelsham skipper Ayden Reid won the toss and had no hesitation in opting to bat.

The butter-fingered Mount Burr fieldsmen gave some chances to the Rendelsham top order and they laid the foundation of a big score.

The visitors including Nathan Muhovics and vice-captain Jack Francis held onto their catches later in the innings but the damage had been done.

Doing most of the damage was opener Jacob Carger with a top score of 79 at almost a run a ball.

Fellow opener Tyson Smith chimed in with 24 while round four centurion Jake Wight looked untroubled in reaching 32. He then lofted an on-drive off the bowling of Rob Francis.

Wight’s shot almost reached the boundary but was smartly taken at deep long-on by the bowler’s son Jack Francis.

The two other in-form members of the Rendelsham top order barely reached double figures but could go no further. They were Dylan Clough with 14 and Mitch Pulmer with 12.

The Rendelsham tail wagged in pursuit of quick runs with the best contribution being the 15 from veteran wicketkeeper Dwayne Gray.

At 54, he is reckoned to be the oldest player in the Millicent/Naracoorte Association.

Rendelsham reached 204 with a wicket in hand when the compulsory closure took effect at the end of 40 overs.

All five Mount Burr bowlers took at least one wicket with the honours going to Jack Francis with 3/42.

He was immediately back in the fray and he joined his skipper Jordan Muhovics as they opened the innings.

They took the score to 16 before a cross-bat miss-hit from Muhovics ended his innings.

Francis stuck around to see seven more of his teammates lose their wickets including three who made ducks.

He was the ninth man out for a painstaking 35.

His team was bowled out in the 38th over for 97.

Other than 19 wides, the next best performer with 11 was Rob Francis.

Reid had given himself and the nine other fieldsmen a turn at the bowling crease and six took wickets.

As a sideline, the onfield antics of an echidna kept the large crowd amused for much of the afternoon.

This match was originally scheduled for Mick and Jean Walker Oval at Mount Burr but had to be transferred due to factors associated with the new irrigation system.

Millicent Black Hats versus Naracoorte Townies: Match abandoned

The online data is incomplete but it is understood the reigning premiers and undefeated Millicent Black Hats made a successful start to their match against the Naracoorte Townies at Wortley Oval.

They took a wicket with the first ball of the match and claimed the other nine before their opponents reached three figures.

However, rain intervened and the match was called off.

Kingston 10/184 defeated Naracoorte Warriors 10/131

There were four outstanding individual performances when home side Kingston defeated the Naracoorte Warriors by 53 runs.

Batting first, Kingston can thank Callum Paige for making almost half of their score of 184.

He belted 91 while good support came from Michael Sanders with 38.

The key bowlers were Nicolas and Loren Bald who took three wickets each.

The Balds featured in the run chase with returns of 43 and 31.

The innings came to an end on 131 due chiefly to the season best figures of 5/8 from Gabriel Cox.

This was achieved with a mere 19 deliveries.
