Wine lovers tee up October golfing treat

Wine lovers and golf enthusiasts are in for a treat with the return of the SAFM/TripleM Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations Golf Day.

Tee off the October long weekend and get a team of four together for a great day of social, and competitive, golf at the stunning Penola Golf Course.

The Golf Day returns as a feature event in the Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations festival calendar.

Team and individual novelty prizes to be won, including the title of Champion Team with the coveted “red jackets” that will be ceremoniously presented to the winning team.

Week one is a ‘Family Fiesta’ of the celebrations offering an extensive program of food and wine events and an array of tasting experiences.

Cruise on in to Coonawarra for a fun-filled week with your family and friends, and make the most of the SA Long weekend.

There’s activities to delight and amuse all ages, and let’s not forget the star of the show wherever you go – Cabernet.

Hit the Coonawarra Wineries Walking Trail, bring the whole family along to relax and enjoy pizza and tunes at Raidis Estate, or tuck into some authentic Turkish street food at Katnook Estate.

Live it up with long weekend vibes served up all weekend at Brand’s Laira, with sweet treats and produce plates at various wineries in the region.

From cheese to chocolate, oysters, pies, light bites to long lazy lunches, intimate dinners and family fiestas you will not be left hungry or thirsty this weekend.

Make the most of the opportunity to taste Balnaves 2014 Tally Reserve Cabernet, which scored 96 points from Australian wine writer, critic and winemaker, James Halliday.

Banks Thargo is open exclusively on weekends during October for tastings, or enjoy Bowen Estate’s bountiful box of current release reds complimented by Pipers of Penola passata sauce and pasta.

Tour DiGiorgio’s property including the famous Terra Rossa soil profile, 100-year-old vines, winery and barrel hall.

Old world Italy will be in the menu at Hollick Estate paired with the winery’s Old Vine Cabernet, or kick off the weekend with an early morning treat of mimosas and gourmet breakfast sandwiches at Koonara.

Relax and play any day over the long weekend at Majella Wines, a perfect place for the kids to have a ball with an array of outdoor games and lolly bar, while the adults savour some special release gems.

Embark on a tasting journey at Wynns Coonawarra Estate with self-guided tasting experience of five extraordinary current and back vintage premium wines.

You’ll have the opportunity to discover why Coonawarra is regarded as one of the most premium Cabernet producing regions in the world.

Taste, compare, savour and celebrate Coonawarra’s signature variety at cellar doors across the region.

To avoid disappointment, bookings to events and cellar doors are highly recommended.

With plenty on offer, more information on all of the celebrations can be viewed in the festival brochure available online at Coonawarra Cabernet Celebrations Long Weekend Guide – Coonawarra Vignerons.
