Women turn up heat in wintry conditions at Attamurra course

Jackets, hats, and layers of warm clothing were the order of the day to combat challenging conditions last Wednesday at Attamurra, due to strong winds and freezing temperatures.

The conditions did not deter 23 ladies participating in the second round of the Hudson Plumbing Trophy, but scores were generally lower than normal.

Putt putting proved quite difficult on fast greens.

A count back was necessary and Andrea Pegler who is enjoying her new sticks was the winner with 31 points from Janina Morrison.

One shot further back was Faye Mainwaring who finished third with 30 points to take the Madd Bites prize.

The pro shot on the eighth hole was challenging with many ladies opting for a different club than normal circumstances to deal with the weather.

Heather Teakle judged her choice of clubs best to claim the pro shot.

In A grade, the second shot on the 10th hole was won by Helen McIntyre, while in B grade  Janina Morrison claimed the prize.

The monthly C grade prize was won by Heather Chapman.

The ball rundown winners were Kathy Ewer, Yvonne Shirley, Jan Shanahan and Di O’Donnell, who needed 28 points or better to claim a ball.

Meanwhile, last Friday saw the first round of the home and away matches for the Peweena Shield against Naracoorte Golf Club ladies played in perfect weather.

This inter club exchange has been played over 80 years and the Mount Gambier ladies scored well, winning seven matches to one, with three other matches squared.

Quite a few matches were close and could have  gone either way and Naracoorte look forward to hosting the return match in September at Naracoorte.

Meanwhile, a field of fifteen ladies played a stableford round on Saturday, including visitor to the course – Debra Bradley – from Tea Tree Gully Golf Club.

Lady’s captain Faye Mainwaring enjoyed the much better conditions to claim the winner’s prize with a score of 41 points.

Mainwaring scored 41/42 for an 83 off the stick, which included two birdies.

Carol Smith survived the four war way count back from Betty McKechnie, Carol Davis and Kathy Ewer, all of who had 36 points to take the runner up prize.
