Mundulla v Penola
Mundulla escaped elimination on Sunday as they came away with a big win over Penola in the Limestone Coast Women’s Football League elimination final at Nangwarry.
The Tigers got off to a flying start as they pushed out to a big lead early on, registering six straight goals on the board to be up by 36 after the opening quarter.
The Tigers continued to dominate the game, getting three more goals on the board in the second frame which took them out to a 57-point lead at half time.
In the third term the struggles continued for the Eagles as they failed to score.
The Tigers on the other hand kept the scoreboard ticking with another big quarter in the forward line as they added four goals to their tally.
Heading into the final term Mundulla held an 83-point lead.
The Tigers finished strong in the fourth period as they held the Eagles scoreless again while putting four more goals on the board to seal the win.
Mundulla’s Melody Maddern and Eliza Orrock were the two standouts in the win.
Mundulla defeated Penola 17.7 (109) to 0.0 (0).
Kybybolite v North Gambier
Kybybolite backed up their round nine performance against North Gambier on Sunday as they took the win again to book their spot into the grand final.
Kyby came out strong in the opening term of the qualifying final, chalking up three goals.
North on the other hand had some improvements to make after finishing the quarter with two minor scores.
After the opening term Kyby held an 18 point lead.
In the second term North did a much better job at getting back into the game as they held Kyby to only one minor score.
North chipped into the lead with their first goal of the match which brought them back into striking distance at half time.
At the major break Kyby held a 13-point lead.
North continued to gain momentum as they put two more goals on the board in the third stanza.
However Kyby did well to keep their distance as they bounced back after a goalless quarter by registering two on the board.
Heading into the final term Kyby held a 15 point lead.
North did their best to cut into Kyby’s lead as they got another goal on the board.
However it was not enough to crack Kyby’s lead as they finished strong with a three goal quarter.
Kybybolite’s Lily Clifford-Finch was named best on while Taylor Ryan kicked three goals.
Kybybolite defeated North Gambier 8.5 (53) to 4.2 (26).
Finals B
Casterton Sandford v South Gambier
Casterton Sandford fended off elimination on Sunday as they took on South Gambier in Nangwarry.
The Cats started well in the opening term, kicking two goals while the Dees struggled with only one point to their name.
After the opening quarter the Cats held a 11 point lead.
In the second term the Dees continued to struggle as they went scoreless while the Cats continued to thrive.
Casterton blew their lead out to a larger margin by kicking three more goals and by the half time break the Cats were well in control of the match with a 31-point lead.
In the third term the Dees finally woke up and got the wheels moving as they put two goals on the board.
To add to their offensive work they backed it up in defence as they held Casterton scoreless.
After a bounce back quarter the Dees trailed by 17 points heading into the deciding frame.
South had chances to cut into the lead as they held Casterton to only two points.
However they could not find the magic they had in the third term which got them back into the game as they went scoreless to end the match and their season.
Casterton’s Ree Humphries and Tessa Marra were the two standout players in the big win for the Cats.
Casterton Sandford defeated South Gambier 5.4 (34) to 2.3 (15).
Millicent v Kongorong
Kongorong will head to the grand final in the B finals after a big win over Millicent in the qualifying final at Nangwarry on Sunday.
The Hawks started well in the opening term as they dominated the play but could not put much scoreboard pressure on the Saints as they kicked one goal and five points.
After the opening quarter the Hawks held a 11 point lead.
The Hawks continued to struggle in front of goal inbthe second as they had five scores with only one resulting in a goal.
Despite the struggles up forward, Kongorong were amazing down back as they held Millicent scoreless again, jumping out to a 21 point lead at half time.
Millicent registered their first goal of the match in the third, however they still had a lot of work to do as the Hawks kicked two goals.
Going into the final term the Hawks held a 29-point lead.
Kongorong finished strong as they managed three more goals to help seal the big win over Millicent.
Kongorong’s Mahli Pannenburg finished as her side’s best while Eadie Mustard led the team in goals with two.
Kongorong defeated Millicent 7.14 (56) to 1.0 (6).
