Furner horse breeder and farmer Brian Bowman achieved one of the highlights of his thoroughbred career when his horse Tippa won the $105,000 Skybeau Final at Morphettville in Adelaide on Saturday.
The four-year-old gelding was bred on his property by Bowman and was ridden to victory by apprentice Rochelle Milnes.
It has now won $264,000 from 17 starts and is probably heading for a spell.
Bowman has a share in the horse along with many who are associated with either the Hatherleigh Football Club or the Millicent Golf Club or both.
The long list of 30 co-owners includes Garry Nilsson, John Chay, Steven Coote, Ben Young, Jamie Bellinger, Shane Westerman, Aiden Auld and Justin Maloney.
Tippa is trained by Shayne and Chelsea Cahill at their stables in Strathalbyn.
The horse was named after the nickname of former Indigenous Essendon footballer Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti who played 133 games with the Bombers from 2016 until 2023.
The winning Jockey said post-race that it is hard not to get emotional.
“The horse has a claim but he really does not need one,” Milnes said.
“The Cahill stable has supported me and it makes you get emotional.
“I cannot thank them enough.
“I have not given him a great ride every start, but the ownership team are phenomenal.
“I know what it means to these people and that makes it special.”
