Young players shine

Millicent youngsters took to the court on the weekend for a special tennis coaching session.

The young players were able to have their first taste of the season with coach Dean Goldsworthy hosting the training sessions.

Goldsworthy held three one-hour hour coaching sessions for 31 children for ages ranging from five upwards.

The coaching sessions were held in advance of the Millicent Hot Shots season, which teaches the basics of tennis to children aged over five.

The next age group is junior development for children aged over seven and aims to fine-tune skills learned in hot shots.

This year the program will be entering a junior team in the Junior Summer Ports competition, which is run on Saturday mornings and consists of six players, both boys and girls.

Local coaching begins next Thursday for children who have interest in playing tennis in the upcoming season.
