Young poet knows it after writing award win

APenola youngster has achieved outstanding success, winning first place in the poetry category in this year’s South Australian Young Writers award.

Penola Primary School Year 2 student Dorothy (Dot) Clements’ winning poem was entitled ‘Spread Kindness’.

The seven-year-old was presented with a certificate at the awards ceremony held at the Adelaide University recently.

“I was sitting around thinking about kindness at school one day and just started to write and it turned into a poem. I love writing stories but especially poetry,” she said.

Dot said she was very surprised to win the award.

She was also presented with a complimentary copy of the Young Writers special edition of SAETA’s journal, OPINION, in which her poem is published.
