20-year tower deal

20-year tower deal

Robe District Council is in the process of finalising leases with the Robe Sports and Recreation Association and Optus Telecommunications for the new tower at the Robe Oval.

Council chief executive James Holyman said the leases will provide a 20-year lease for the association and facilitate the transfer of the lease paid for by Optus to the association and the lease with Optus provides for the new telecommunication tower.

“The telecommunication tower will have lights to improve access to the oval during the football season,” Mr Holyman said.

“The materials and construction are being funded by Optus.

“The tower to be constructed by Optus will be a monopole and all telecommunications equipment will be hidden behind a shroud.”

Some local landholders had objected to the location of the tower but their appeal was dismissed by the Environment, Development and Resources Court.
