Classic bikes on show

There will be plenty of classic chrome on show this weekend as the Mount Gambier Classic and Vintage Motorcycle Show goes ahead for its seventh consecutive year.

The event will be held at the Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre on Saturday from 9am-6pm and Sunday from 9am-2pm.

Event organiser Tyrone Mustey said people had shown a keen interest in the event as it had been postponed twice with the popular occasion going ahead despite restrictions.

“At this stage masks are mandatory and there will be a QR code and manual check-in upon entry,” Mr Mustey said.

Mr Mustey said the Mount Gambier Classic and Vintage Motorcycle Show donated proceeds to the Cancer Council SA, raising more than $17,500 to date.

“I am hoping to crack the $20,000 mark this time around,” he said.

“I could not have run this event without Cancer Council’s approval and support from day one.

“It is a great cause, and everyone gets on board because there is still a lot of people affected by it.”

Mr Mustey said the occasion attracted a “broad spectrum” of individuals from toddlers to people over 90.

“The entry fee is $5 for adults while children under 14 get in for free,” he said.

“It is a social event as much as anything else and I am always astounded with what bikes come out of the woodwork.”

Mr Mustey said he wanted to thank the Mount Gambier City Council and sponsors that have supported the event.

“The city council have really gone out of the way to welcome us in the facility every year,” he said.

“I would also like to thank Shannon’s Insurance, Trident Tyre Centre and Repco.”
